Endpoint Management: Switching to a new phone
If you receive a replacement (business) phone from your employer, you need to transfer (personal) data and applications from your old to your new phone. To access UU data such as your UU mail, your device needs to be secured with Endpoint Management (EM). Below are outlined the steps you need to perform;
- Backup and transfer data
- Transfer 2FA TWO-FACTOR-AUTHENTICATION from your old device to your new device
- Configure Endpoint Management on your new device to access UU data
- Reset old device to factory settings.
Before you begin setting up your new device, keep the following information handy and consider the following;
- Solis ID and password
- Apple or Google account with password
- To set up Wi-Fi, select ‘Utrecht University’. You will need your Solis ID and password. On an Android device select ‘Do not validate’ for CA certificate and on an Apple device you must ‘Trust’ the connection
- Your new device MUST be secured with a 6-digit PIN to unlock your screen.

1. BACK UP and transferring data
Is your data automatically backed up to the Cloud on your old device? This varies by cell phone and operating system (OS) and the type of account you have on your device.
Make sure you have a recent backup and that your backup contains everything you want to transfer, such as contacts, messages, photos and WhatsApp conversations (set it in WhatsApp itself).There are several ways to get data from your old phone onto your new phone. The easiest way is method b.
Method A
After logging in with the same account on your new phone, your data will be synced to the new phone. If everything is not synced, then you can manually transfer the data (such as photos and videos).
Method B
On Samsung devices, you can do this with the app Samsung Smart Switch.
For Apple devices, it can be done with ‘Begin immediately’.
- Using ‘Begin Direct’ to transfer data to a new iPhone or iPad – Apple Support (NL), if the link doesn’t work, type https://support.apple.com/nl-nl/HT210216 or https://support.apple.com/nl-nl/HT201269
NOTE: transferring data is not supported by the UU.
After you have logged in to your new device with your Apple or Google account and installed the applications, the login credentials and user data of these are not synchronized. Consider 2FA or a banking app, for example. You will have to log in again.

2. 2FA – TWO-FACTOR-AUTHENTICATION
First, deactivate the 2FA application on your old device after which you can reinstall it on your new device.
- On laptop or PC go to the website https://mysolisid.uu.nl
- After logging in, press ‘Two-factor authentication’ in the black bar
- Select ‘Deactivate 2FA with…’ (your app)
- Confirm the deactivation on your old phone device, this way the device is deactivated.
- The screen on the website mysolisid.uu.nl will jump back to ‘Get started’ and select it. Follow the steps that apply to you with your new device. (If you don’t have the old app/device handy, you can also deactivate using the recovery code. If you don’t have that either, you will have to ask the IT Support desk to deactivate the 2FA).
Manuals for (re)installing the 2FA app can be found at: Manuals | UU Manuals
If the manual for your 2FA application is not on the manuals website, you will have to look it up yourself. The UU only provides support for NetIQ as an authenticator app. -
3. Endpoint Management
Apply protocol to your new device to access UU data. There are a number of manuals available for this on the UU manuals website;
Use the search term “Endpoint Management” for current manuals and select the one that applies to you. Once you have gone through these, you will be able to access your UU data over the phone.
Note: This is an Endpoint Management installation on a UU phone, not a private phone.
-
4. Return to factory settings
This may be different for each type/brand of phone, but the following are the standard steps. If you do not succeed, search online for information about your device type. Or ask for help when you return the device.
- Open the ‘Settings’ app on your phone.
- Tap Accounts. If you don’t see Accounts, tap Users and accounts.
- Log out of the account (Google/ Apple ID).
- You often need to confirm this with, for example, the account password or your screen unlock code.
- Check that ‘Find my (i)Phone’ or ‘Find my (i)Phone’ is off.
Factory reset phone:
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
Android Apple Go to ‘info phone’ Go to ‘General’ Choose ‘reset or factory reset’ ‘Reset’ > ‘Erase all content and settings’ - Follow the steps.
Reboot the device, it should now come up with the default home screen. All user data has now been deleted.
